“Keep pushing yourself forward. Do whatever it takes. You’ll soon leap over the final hurdle and land right where you want to be.”
As the days get longer and the temperatures rise to perfect and sometimes unbearable highs I’m reminded that we all want to be in better shape because we can no longer wear layers of clothes to disguise our round shapes.
The amazing thing is that every year we wake up in September, remember it’s spring and then try to shed these kilos before December. We lose kilos only to gain them back over the Christmas break.
Then we start again in January hoping we’ll get that ideal figure before the temperatures start to drop in April and before we know it, it’s June and we’re back where we started.
This same principle applies to how we choose to run our lives. The start-stop manner of taking something on and then losing momentum and giving up is largely because we lose sight of the bigger picture.
The planning starts around a vague goal that has some meaning to us, based on some prize we hope to achieve. Ask yourself: “is your lifestyle choice to be healthy and fit or is it to be thinner for summer? And which summer? This year or all summers in the future? The decision to be healthy and fit and simmer for summer has a deeper meaning and allows you to have a long term vision.
Achieving this goal is about resilience. Deciding on your vision is the place to start. The way you get there is about the things you choose to do on a daily basis. This basic principle applies to all things in life. The job, the relationship, all of it can be achieved if you have resilience.
We are a society bound to instant gratification in a world where access to most things is achieved through the touch of a button. The access has also given us a sense that this is the best we can get or achieve and yet there’s always more.
My sense is we need to build our resilience and muscle through daily pursuit of what we want. So if you want the loving relationship, be the person that loves yourself first.
If you want to find the perfect job, know what that looks like and then go after it using every opportunity you get in other jobs to give you the tools and the access you need to get that perfect job.
If you want the perfect body get out there and do some exercise, watch your eating and see the results.
There’s nothing like results to give you that extra boost towards achieving your vision.
But you have to keep at it. Remember you can create anything you want to and if you want it badly enough, stick with the highs and lows that come with it. As long as it’s not abusive to you or another, find your resilience and use it to push through to get where you want to be.
