Even though the father of her two-year-old son has recently been found guilty of murder, attempted murder, racing on a public road and driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs, Kelly Khumalo is unfazed.
“That chapter of my life is closed – it’s been that way for a year,” she says. And the same goes for her days as a wild party animal, she tells us. These days she’s set on putting her career back on track and raising her son, Christian.
Kelly and Molemo Maarohanye, better known as Jub Jub, were together for almost three years but the relationship was plagued with controversy and allegations of drug abuse and physical violence.
She meets us to speak of some of the things she has not shared before. Clearly a doting mother, she checks on the energetic and playful Christian constantly. Kelly admits that even though she’s been through a tough time in her life she will always remain a child at heart. And as we watch her play with her young son, it’s obvious that she’s right.
Kelly’s life is so far removed from that of her ex-boyfriend that on the day he was found guilty she’d taken the day off work and was fast asleep. The singer was woken by a call from Jub Jub’s close friend, Amu, informing her of the judge’s verdict.
The actress says she wasn’t at all shocked or even moved by the pros-pect of Jub Jub spending the rest of his life in jail. “It’s not that I’m cold-hearted or that I hate him, but we live separate lives and what happens to him has nothing to do with me. I only care about Christian now,” says Kelly seriously.
