He’S seen as an outspoken, over-opinionated motor-mouth and describes himself as “one of the most dangerous men in the media”. But it seems shock jock Phat Joe also has a well-developed social conscience – and it makes him embarrassed to be black.

“It pains me to see black people wearing expensive, top-of-the range designer clothes. We spend a fortune on clothes but we’re not giving back to our communities. Black people have lost their way,” 37-year-old Majota Mandlakayise Isaac Kambule, aka Phat Joe, tells us when we meet up for a photo shoot at the luxurious Southern Sun Cullinan Hotel in Cape Town.
